Default 2000 Civic - Idle takes time to drop when warm

Hey all,

Thanks in advance.

I was dealing with the typical bouncy idle, and solved it by pulling the IACV and giving it a decent clean.

Now the idle doesn't bounce, and it sits near 1000, which is a definite improvement. (Was bouncing between 15-1800)

The issue I'm having now, however, is that the idle tends to hang before it settles... Could my idle screw need adjusting? Is there something else I should be looking at?

Just as a heads up, so that all bases are covered - I'm throwing a code at the moment, and I BELIEVE it's O2 Heater, Bank1. I also noticed under the hood that there is a black/yellow wire that doesn't lead anywhere, near the larger harness connection under the intake.

Aftermarket I/H/E.

Bump. Going to try clean the IACV again -- maybe I didn't do enough.

Slack in throttle cable is good.

How long does it hang, 2 seconds, 10 seconds, 1 minute?

Between 3-7 seconds. I noticed on warm up, it gradually falls rather than going from 1600 down to 1000. (Which is still high)

I'm suspecting vac leak... Likely from near cruise... Couldn't get anything by spraying carb cleaner to check, other than once by accident under the mani... It worked, but couldn't find the spot again. I've taken a look at the vac diagram and think I'll try disconnecting the cruise and plugging the nipple, see if that solves the idle issue. If not I'll keep testing to troubleshoot where it could be.

Could I be completely on a wild goose chase here? Could the bad O2 (P0132) be the issue? Unfortunately the wiring is a chop job. Previous owner mucked up the harness pretty good with the b swap that was in it prior. They dumped the stock engine back in.

Might not be relevant to your issue but I think I would fix this first so that I know there wasn't any bad connections or faulty grounds etc. Once you have a solid harness see how it acts and troubleshoot problems you have. But that's me, your chop job harness might be just fine and look like crap.

Also have you set the idle to spec according to the FAQ sticky?

Pull the code and post it as well.
