Default Cause for metal dust in oil?

Hey folks!

I'm soon going to be opening my "last summer" h23, wich had metal dust issues in oil (a fair amount). It was like sand, no, or not much bigger particles than that. It ran fine, had a 220 to 230 warm-test compression on cylinders, except for a faint knock, and some slight oil consumption (less than a pint/5000km) it was good.

Of course once the engine is out i will give it a leakdown test to point to some possible issues, but apart from rod bearings, (and obvious crank bearings, will take the mains off) what could be going? Not ringlands, like my last badluck i hope hahaha

No it's a good question,

But this engine is original, and looked original with i bought it at the jaydeem shop last spring. Probably poor maintenance back there.

Well, if the bearing(s) was spun, how come the little key/slot is still intact? and bearing halfs were in their respective spots?

Those bearings are ground out pretty good, how is your crank looking?
