Icon6 SOLVED: Civic ej1 d16z6 - random issue, need to wait 30 min for engine to start

Hi, i have a issue with my d16z6, i have a random problem let me explain.
I drive the car 10 or 15 min and then i turn off, then i wait 5 min or 2 min i try to turn on the car, but the car not start, i need to wait 30 min to turn on the car i mean the car start normaly.

I check the coil and is ok.
I try using 3 diferents distribuitor but a had the same issue. Might i bad cap rotor or ICM, but a had the same results.
When i try to turn on the car, i can smell gasoline.
I can listen the fuel pump when i try to turn on the car.

I dont know if the problem is the main relay.

Thanks for the help.

Although, this is a hot start, when the cel goes out and the fuel pump is primed do you hear the main relay click?

Sorry different time zones(it was my bed time lol), if you hear the relay click after the fuel pump prime period then your relay is unlikely to be faulty, if you have a autozone near you you could ask them to test a new relay on your d16 to see if it is the relay thats faulty?

Sounds like the ECU is toast.

When the engine won't start, does the fuel pump fail to prime and does the CEL remain on steady with the key in ON(II)?

Have you tried cleaning/tightening the G101 ground on the thermostat housing?

I had the same problem and it was the engine coolant sensor or temp sensor. I forget which. It was out of range. At start it was telling the ecm that the engine was warm and then after it ran for a while it showed the engine was over heated and wouldn't start until the sensor cooled down. I hope this helped.

Glad to hear you found the problem. The main relay sure seems to be able to cause strange problems. I have a no start 94 Honda civic. The timing belt jumped timing. I'm finishing up the belt change today. I hope the belt is the only problem. I'll check out the site follow.

I had problems again, i recheck all and i found the problem.

Cheking:

Main Relay OK
Distribuitor OK
ICM OK
Spark plug OK
Spark plug wire OK

All was good.

We did the all test, and we have Spark in the spark plug wire, but i had the same problem.

Symptoms: The car start ramdon, if you drive around of 15 or 10 min and then turn off the car, wait some minutes and try to start again, the car not start.. you need to wait 30 min or more to start again.

SOLUTION:

Change the ECT Sensor, is under the Distribuitor and bualaaaa.... the problem is solved.

I hope this helps you and others to solve this strange problem
