that's insane. is it literally cracked between every tooth? that is something i have never broke or cracked on a liberty dog box and a gforce dog box, the ring gear. and i know the ppg stuff is exponentially better quality than the two mentioned.

Never seen this before. Not even stock trannies. The only trans I've ever seen cracks on the ring gear is the gforce. They seem to do it about every 30-40 passes. But those cracks were horizontal. In your pic they are vertical. Just very weird.
What ring gear size is that? Gsr?
What's the counter shaft look like?

Tepid, u have seen these exact cracks before?

Seen it a few times on the PPG 4.6. If you look back a few years ago there is a lot of info about this.

Yes, that's why I said I've seen it before. The early revision gearsets had this issue. I've seen it on the early 4.4 and 4.6 finals.

The newer stuff doesn't seem to have this issue.

Sorry for the noobish question, buddy. My tranny is pretty early 08-09 and god knows I've tire shook like a mfer and never seen it before. How many passes did u get before you seem this?
Question is for op and locash also. If they are willing to share.

I have notice on the gsr ring gear that it doesn't sit fluch with the diff. Had to machine the spool a couple mm smaller so it would sit flush.

The b16/LS ring ppg ring gear has more material on it because the diff is smaller.
