You're looking at an extensive rebuild. You can't just throw another gear on there. To do this right the entire transmission must be completely stripped bare and cleaned thoroughly. You also now have bearings and other gears that have been damaged or compromised by the broken gear teeth getting stirred around inside. Good luck

Bearings may seem to spin ok but debris such as chunks of metal damage the race and the *****. With the rpm and the load the bearings will surely have a greatly reduced life but may still work ok for some time.

The other thing is the amount of metallic debris that's has now been feed into the main and countershaft, as well as nooks and crannies all over the transmission casing. Take the gears/apart and you will see exactly what I'm talking about.

To me, nothing is better than a perfect operating and shifting transmission that you know has been done right. So it's natural I'd recommend to rebuild yours properly rather than half assed like it seems 90% out there are.

I see lots of heat related damage from not getting proper oil flow. Normally on B's when that happens 4-5-R is trashed.

Found the same thing in a friend's car he recently bought. 5th gear looked just like that. But the rest of the tranny was ok, just allot of debris, like mentioned before. Make sure you completely clean out the passages running down the center of both gear shafts, the will be clogged with metal shavings.

1320london: Hopefully you can salvage the transmission case itself and maybe shifter forks. But likely not much else.

Note the arrow on the bolt heads for the ring gear, they are left hand threads.

Yep, the whole thing comes out as one. It may take some with wiggling and pulling

i didnt really have any shavings just the teeth, i sprayed thru the shafts and everything this happened all at once so maybe there wasnt much time to do alot of damage
