What type of helicoil to repair gsr block head studs ?
What size kit will be needed to retap the engine block. I notice it has to be a longer drill and tap due to it being deeper. What kits are out there for this type of job. I'm running the arp studs and one head stud strip on me.
Take the stud with you and match it perfectly at the parts store. The Heli-Coil repair kits have different length inserts, you may have to get the longest one for best performance in a deephole. It may also be a bit harder to instal below the deck as most threads are but you can make an insertion tool with just about any piece of 3/8" rod with a slot ground in the end to hold the coil. Be sure it is in the correct depth when inserted.
Also, it will be stronger than the origonal threads.

The kit is pricey. I plan to do timesert. What size drill bit and tap size is needed to place the timesert m11x1.5 30mm in?

On a slightly different note I got a GSR motor and after taking it apart found out it had one helicoil insert in the head bolt holes. Now the motor has stock head bolts. I made an attempt to put in a ARP stud in the helicoil insert the thread matches but the ARP stud has a slight flare at the end of the thread so with the helicoil all the way in till its flush with the deck of the block the ARP sticks out a good ways. The motor will still be N/A but higher compression is there a recommended head stud without that flare that I can use?
look for a shop that can timesert it . that is a Honda approved repair. I would never trust helicoil on a block. Honda dealerships have the kits. ive done a few myself
