Default Need Some Ideas...

I've been trying to think of what to put on my X-mas wish list and I can't come up with anything. What are some fairly cheap things that would help me in AutoX? I mean like books, tools, minor mods, etc....

shift *****, pedal covers, light up windshield washer nozzles, 1nD1gL0 gauges, fuzzy dice....

On a serious note:

Gift certificate from Amazon (to buy racer books of course) or any racer supply store, a nice tire pressure gauge (with the big dial and bleed button), a set of gloves, brake fluid, case of Mobil 1, misc tools/sockets (you'd have to specify i suppose - i.e. i lost my 1/2" drive 13 mm deep socket....), mechanix gloves (:thumbup, creeper, jackstands, drop light, flash lights, car cleaning/care supplies (wash, wax, chamois, sponges, etc), tire pyrometer, stopwatch w/ clipboard, racer t-shirts.... the list goes on...

. i lost my 1/2" drive 13 mm deep socket
speaking of, I have an extra 3/8" 12mm socket. I think you left it at my place.
and check to see if you have any extra wrenches like 10mm and 12mm, im missing a couple.

W3rd! I hope to attend the rookie school this spring and compete the whole season. I just want the "necessary" stuff that every racer needs... stuff to help make the job easier at the track. Since I've only competed in 2 events, I haven't had enough time to go around and see what everybody else is bringing with them. I know the portable air tanks and fancy gauges are common and those look like they would come in handy. I just wondered what else you guys find useful at the track.

They have this book at most large booksellers. Secrets of Solo Racing. Personally I think it is worth it. Link to purchase at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...lance&n=507846

Watts is a little out-dated but a lot of that info is still good. Carroll Smith is also good (but old). The undesputed "bible" currently is this one:

You can get it here or here.

10 gallon air tank ($30)

basic tools you will eventually want:

open end wrenches
misc pliers, channel locks, etc
soldering kit (butane or cordless is nice)
Big Farqing Hammer

driving shoes ($100)
For the budget minded try a pair of wrestling shoes. I think winter is wrestling season so try looking now. I switched to an old pair of shoes with no tread (smooth sole) and it did help a little.

If you ever swap wheels yourself, a torque wrench would be a good investment. You don't want to strip any wheel studs.
