Hey all! First time post so please be forgiving if I do some noob error.

I found something strange under my bonnet today and thought I'd ask the experienced, hopefully someone has an idea what is going on because I sure don't.

It looks to me like someone has cut a chunk of the IM off and welded a pipe of the head for coolant maybe?

Just hoping some could confirm if I'm right, why it would be done, is it a normal thing to do or a backyard machanic short cut to something?

Any help would be much appreciated guys thanks!

Car details: JDM Integra GSR - B18C. Standard as far as I know.

 

not really normal. that sucks. it appears they took a type r intake manifold and modded it to fit.

 

GSR head with a modded single stage manifold. Possibly a typeR manifold. Not the best execution, IMO.

It is not welded either, that is JB Weld, just a strong epoxy putty, wouldnt be very hard to get a complete intake manifold from the junkyard and pull that abortion out of the car, the JB welded barb would come off with a pair of vice grips

Backyard mechanic. I can't say much because I've JB welded barbed fittings on my car... for a vac line. This is pretty rough looking. A new IM would go a long way.
