I run Amsoil in the rear and motor, and OEM MTF in the gearbox.
I've heard Pennzoil Syncromesh in the gearbox is actually getting rid of more of the notches and grinds.
The previous owner put in an unknown fluid to me, and there wasn't enough. Once I had enough in there, it got a lot better. The MTF flush worked wonders. But I'd still like to try the Syncromesh.

Motor oil is fine. As a long term solution motor oil is a poor choice IMO thats all.
If you're gonna do fluid changes on the diff and tranny, use good stuff since you won't be doing it again for a year or two. GM synchromesh and random 75w90 in the back (mobil1 i think)

just use any off the shelf synthetic with good filter and change it every 4-5000mi.
I personally use any of the following from their synthetic lines depending what's on sale and 10w30:
Castrol Edge
Valvoline
Pennzoil Platinum
Royal Purple /Mobil10 are good too but they ain't got them 10$ rebates and free filter deals lol
Filter:
OEM Honda is best IMO
K&N is readily available and I haven't heard of any problems with them.
If you care enough, run Amsoil oil and Amsoil filter and run it for 10-15,000 mile intervals.

this topic has beat beat to utter death, but with that said I use
Castrol GTX 10w30 dino oil(id personally stay away from anything synthetic since you have an AP1), because its the only oil that my S doesn't eat
GM synchromesh in the tranny, perfect fluid IMO
Amsoil severe gear oil 75w110 for the diff

exactly...GM synchromesh has been proven over and over again to be an awesome replacement for the Honda manual fluid, since the Honda fluid sucks
Amsoil MTF. I run this in my CSi. Will be running in my S. I will be trying Rotella T6 for engine oil. I run only Mobil One in my DD Si. Never had an issue.
I tried running GM synchromesh in my AP1 (2003 or 2004). Worked great for two weeks and two track days. Tried it again in the AP1 and got the same result. My AP1 was just one step down from being a dedicated track car.
I then tried it in my AP2. Got the same results except that it did not last the full two track days.
During those days, I could not tolerate that kind of performance because I was doing 5-8 track days each month. A local guy wanted to try it and I gave him all of the 6 quarts that I had remaining for free just to get it out of my garage.
One of the local track guys with a dedicated race S2000, and former user of the GM stuff, recommended that I try the new formulation of the Honda MTF and I've been using it ever since. My health only allows me to go to the track in the spring and fall now but I can get 10 track days out of the new formula Honda MTF without any degradation in performance.

I'm not sure of when. I've been using it for, say, 5 years.
The label has the following text on it:
Advanced Protection
New and Improved formula for Honda vehicles
I believe that the part number is 08798-9031
