97 civic dx - How can I prevent thieves from unlocking my doors?
im really not interested in any alarm system packages you can buy from a manufacturer
i have never broken into my own civic to test but everyone always says "civics are easy to unlock by sticking something thru the window"
im sure this is true because the locking rod is right there and if you know how to find it with a stick you can pull it
anyways, i wanna make this impossible on my car
tl;dr prevent unlocking doors with stick thru window

Alarms are more of a deterrent Than anything else, and unless your close enough to your car and know it's alarm by heart chances are you may not even hear/realize your alarm is going off. If you do get an alarm make sure to get a 2 way pager with good distance. The best things you could do though if you're really worried about your car is
1. Get a detachable steering wheel
2. Remove the stereo face if possible
3. Hook up a hidden kill switch
4. Remove the computer from the car and take it with you
5. Don't use the steering wheel club, it's useless (not sure about the pedal one)
Also if you have a nice set of rims get a set of locking lug nuts, there not a guarantee but it's better than nothing

Even if getting an alarm you'll probably have one or all of the above happen. The key thing here is that you will still have your car where you parked it because the alarm deters them from going any further.
You can also make your car "less desirable" by keeping it looking mostly stock. If nobody thinks you have anything special under the hood or in the trunk then they're a lot less likely to try anything. Btw an alarm isn't a bad idea, that blinking light can b very deterring and can save you a broken lock or window. Ultimately though nothing is full proof, but the more of a hassle your car looks like to steal the less likely anyone is going to try

somehow I doubt op's car is really worth stealing....
just use lexan windows they're fixed in place and weight alot less then glass plus you'll get that race car feel on your econ-o box.

Sorry to disagree with Tony but an alarm alone isn't going to keep your car safe from someone who really wants it, like I said before it works as a good deterrent and that's it.
Whether it's worth stealing or not op obviously has a concern about his car being stolen or at least broken into. Fixed in place windows may not be that great on a dd, I know I personally have my windows down almost every time I drive.
As far as someone popping the lock through where your window is, I wouldn't worry about it too much. There are other ways to get in even if you do something about the window and non are very difficult. The best thing you can do is to not give anyone more reason to break into your car than the next guys ( loud subs, carbon fiber, I pod on the seat, nice stereo, or anything else someone might want). Other than that all you can really do is what I said before unless you want to spend a lot of money. Unfortunately these cars are just very easy to break into.

If someone wants your car bad enough its gone... not much you can do about it. You can put in cut offs, ignition shut off, fuel shut off or any number of mods to the car.
ALL it takes is having a guy call a tow truck, wait with the tow truck driver and have it dropped off somewhere. Here in ohio the last 2 times i have been towed the driver never asked for license/proof of ownership or anything. picked me up and dropped me off.
actually lexan windows ARE fixed in place and are used on track cars ask me how I know....I was being sarcastic with op tho.
I have no alarm or anything like that on my track car have never had anyone try and steal it out of my garage....
I did it before by disconnecting the rod that connects the interior door handle to the exterior lock. If that makes sense. To access this rod, you have to remove the Interior door handle and unfasten said rod.
Pros- the interior lock mechanism will no longer function
Cons- the doors will only lock from the outside

I agree with you grape that if someone really wants your car it's gone but I think the tow truck idea is a bit of a stretch. Every tow truck that I've come across has asked for at least id and they note where the car got picked up and where the car got dropped off so it wouldn't exactly be smart for someone to try that. Plus I doubt someone would want to try towing someone's car from their driveway in the middle of the day ( assuming there's no gate or fence in the way) since doing it at 2 am would look a little funny and probably be remembered. I'm sure there are a few people around that might have their own truck but the simple truth is nobody is gonna waste there time on a stock looking dx especially if it looks like it could be a hassle. The more work and less reward the less likely anyone is to break into/steal your car it's really that simple.
