HI, my honda civic 2000 puffs at low speed, and CEL flashes. A jump plug shorting abs reading shows the following codes (pretty bad I guess). Any suggestion where I should start to look? Thanks a bunch..

12 EGR - exhaust gas recirculation lift valve
16 Fuel injectors
18 ???
54 CKF - crank fluctuation sensor
61 Primary oxygen sensor

 

00 Civic HX?

 

Head gasket, spark plugs (oem is best), ignition wires. Egr valve and 02 sensors of what i don't know. Bump

Maybe buy an helms manual and get the whole thing straight.

 

it's 2000 civic ex, has 180K miles on it. spark plugs/wires, distribution caps etc replaced at 150K. should i try to replace the fuel filter? not sure when that last replaced.

Whats your ecu code? EX models do not have EGR. Are you running low on coolant?

OP --> In addition to checking the ECU code, check the head and block engine codes as well. You don't have a stock Civic EX - it's been modified.

How to check head and block engine codes? I see the following below the ECU: 1214-286797

Also coolant level is fine.

You have an ECU for the D16Y8 engine (Civic EX). This ECU should never throw an EGR code. Reset the ECU to clear the codes, and then run the engine and recheck the codes.

are you seeing any smoke? if so, what color?

 

Also if you can have them read with a scanner and post the Pxxxx codes

 

I would start by buying Haynes or Chilton's manual because those books tell you everything from engine codes to rebuilding the entire engine.
