jumpy tach?
hey....my friend and I just finished installing an Apexi tach on my del sol...it works great...and looks great....except at wide open throttle....when floored the needle starts to get jump around 4000 rpms and keeps doin it...its so bad that it will set my shift light off prematurely..any ideas wat that could be?
Where is the tach tapped in to get signal?
I have mine running straight off the distributor. It's the blue wire on the distributor harness. Works great, and no problems.
Check your connections. Try another tach, maybe yours is bad.

Same problems on my Defi tach. I thought it was the tach at first until I heard about people having this same problem with different brands of tachs. I spliced into the blue tach wire near the master cylinder. I'm thinkin it might be my ignitor or something. My tach is one of those ones that uses a stepper motor.
teh wire near the master cylinder is the one we used...my friend did most of the work as i am not taht great with electronics...but he installed his autometer tach in teh same way and had no problems
Does the Autometer use a stepper motor? Mine is the kind that has like 0-4K RPM spaced really close together. Then from 5K RPM on up the graduated marks are spaced farther apart. I'm wondering if any one type of tach is more susceptible to jumpy needle syndrome than others.
Edit: Here's some pics...

Im curious to know why its jumpy. I hope its not a bad tach dude.
Yea it defeats the purpose of the tach if i cant read it...any ideas how to test it to see if its the tach? or any better place to get the signal?
Sebastian....if u are home this weekend could u look at it?
