95 civic ex - Overheating

Default 95 civic ex - Overheating

Hey guys I'm new to this form and hoping I can get some help. So I have a 1995 civic ex with a d16z6 and it has been overheating. I had replaced the radiator, thermostat, a new head gasket and shaved my head and had some oil changes. After all of this it still overheats only when I do not have my heater on. Is there any suggestion on what is going on?

Did you thoroughly bleed the cooling system?

Does the radiator fan run when the engine gets hot?

Are you losing coolant at all? When was the last time the water pump changed?

Usually people do water pump and timing belt together as good practice but not always.

Just looking for more information that may be helpful, not implying any course of action as of yet.

When you shaved your head, did you get your block tested for flatness?

Also your new radiator, is it OEM?

How do you bleed the cooling system. I have an OEM radiator and I am not loosing any coolant at all.

The bleeder screw is located on the top housing where the top radiator hose is connected to. You'll need a 10mm wrench to bleed the system.

That's only half the process. First you fill the radiator up, open the bleeder screw until it stops bubbling and only spews coolant, tighten the bleeder screw and then you raise the front of the car and start and run it with the rad cap on the first notch, or not at all and top up the radiator as needed once the fans kick on twice (means the thermostat opened). Oh and you have to have your heat set to maximum heat, don't have to turn the heater fan on, just put temperature to max heat. That will purge the air out of the heater core too. After you are done topping up the radiator, you can shut the car off, put the rad cap on and then you top up the reservoir.

They did away with the bleeder screw from 96-00 and you just burp it through the radiator with the nose of the car lifted.
