97 Civic DX Keeps Turning Off, Rough Gear Shifting, Rubber Burning Smell?
So yeah its a 97 Civic DX 2 door standard.
When the car is on and idling it kind of sputters like it wants to die and sometimes does. To get moving I have to put way too much gas cause if I don't the car just kind of slowly rolls and won't get into gear. At the same time I smell a burning smell coming from the engine area-ish.
Today I was driving and it was terribly difficult to get into gear without basically slamming on the gas, and even then it kind of shakes when it's "in gear". At the same time it made like 2 very deep pitched but not too loud "popping" sounds about 15 seconds apart when I was in second.
I'm just wondering what is wrong with my car, if anyone could offer any help or advice it would be greatly appreciated. I need to get my baby fixed

Check the thermostat ground as well, I've seen them do that before. With the engine running grab the harness near the thermostat ground and move it around a bit, does the car shut off?
