Find an EX at the junkyard and take the doors, harness, and keyless module, and key fobs if available.

Or buy an aftermarket door lock conversion on eBay.

It's also critical to know what year Civic hatch you have. "EK" is insufficient information.

97 Civic hatch = OBD2a

OBD2a = 96-98 Civics

You need the stock radio from a 96-98 EX, LX, or HX Civic to get the keyless system.

As mentioned, you also need a 96-98 OEM remote and the 96-98 EX, LX, or HX Civic door and dash harnesses.

I wouldn't call that the "cheapest" way to do it. You can buy a basic aftermarket keyless entry system with a pair of actuators for under a hundy.

Even by acquiring stock used parts from a junk yard?

I could be wrong but I think this guy is in Ca., just going off memeory from a previos post. I could be completely wrong about that.

Prices for junk yard parts are regional, Amazon isn't. What would a set of key fobs, dash harness, door harness, power lock actuators, door switches and keyless equiped OE radio cost in Tejas? It's likely cheaper to buy a complete pair of power equiped doors. I'd bet three to four times what you could buy an aftermarket keyless entry with a pair of actuators if not more. You can buy these keyless sytems for $65-$75 if you want cheap.

^ Yeah. Doors are $30 where I'm at. Two of those plus some cabin wiring means a full power retrofit for about $100. But like you said - lots of regional variation.
