Default 05 Honda Accord EX 2.4 (4Cyl) Trans Oil change advice

Im trying to catch up on my wifes 05 Accord Maintenance, she has had the car 8 or so years it has about 174,000 miles on it, I just changed the spark plugs which I think were the original ones since day one, and she dont have a clue of what has and hadnt been done to it, because it is really her moms and step dads car and I got the impression he was keeping the car maintained, which I think ment just changing the oil, so I have just recently started trying to maintain the car myself since Im in the picture now lol.. I have never messed with cars and not really a car type person, I keep my truck up and maintained my self.. Anyways, I asked her about the Trans fluid if it had been changed and she said she dont think so, I have actually not checked it, to see if it is dark or smells burnt or anything yet but I will when she gets home from work today, If it has not actually been changed is there any special steps I need to take, no trans problems as of yet anyway..

I read it has a inline filter on it that says it does not have to be changed but I think im gonna change it anyway... is there anyway to get more than 3.5 qrts out at a time, cause the only method Ive really seen is to drain, refill and drive a 1000 miles or so and repeat 3 or 4 times.. I would rather do the work myself than to take it anywhere, but I work out of town so it will be the end of the month before I get to it..

And just wonderin if anyone can clear this myth up for me, Ive heard that trans flushes are bad that if you werent having problems you would after a flush, and also the other myth is if you didnt change it when you were supposed to to just leave it alone, not sure if it means to not change it period or to just drain and refill..

Any advice on what I need to do or any tips would be appreciated.. Thanks

Do drain and fills, with Honda fluid (3 quarts per drain), as many as necessary to keep the fluid clean and red. There are How-to videos around. I would change the filter and crush washer on the drain plug on the last drain and fill (if you do more than one).

I would just do a drain and refill once every 20k-30k and make sure you only use honda fluid. and check dipstick while engine running

I did the first drain and refill at 130k on my 05 accord 2.4 and I've never had an issue. I now have 142k

Go to honda and buy 9 quarts of DW-1 ATF. Change the fluid 3x, each time driving the car for about 5-10 mintues making sure to be in each gear. Reverse included. On the final Drain and fill change the inline filter. After that I'd change it once every year and you will always have clean fresh fluid in the car.

WRONG! A Honda automatic transmission fluid level is checked with the engine OFF. Any Honda owner's manual will tell you that.

LMAO!! I doubt you're a CMAT,if you are, youre an embarrassment to all of us CMATs.

Honda automotive transmissions are checked with the vehicle off. Have been that way since their inception in the US,more than 30 years now.....
