Default 2012 Accord Mystery Button~~~~

Hey all, I have a 2012 Honda Accord Coupe EX. The other day I stumbled upon this mystery button located on the underside of my dash (Left Image). There is no label on it, just a random green button. I followed its wiring to another box mounted to the steering column support (Right Image). This box has an adjuster on it that says min-max, it is set in the middle. This then taps into an adjacent wiring harness. It looks as though this was put in by Honda but after the car was assembled, like an after thought. I did buy the car brand new and have only had it serviced at a Honda dealership. My guess is that it has to do with the sensitivity adjustment for the factory alarm system (which I don't think I have). So I have no idea what it is. Has anyone ever seen this before, and what the heck is it??

I think it's one of two things:

1. You're a terrorist and the FBI or DHS has planted this tracking device on your vehicle to monitor the next time you plan on attacking innocent people.

2. Dealer installed option, likely aftermarket but approved by Honda because the wiring looks factory, but the mounting looks aftermarket. Probably a keyless entry system.

I'm going to bet that's the dealer "security" system they try to sell. Some dealers, like mine, will install it on all their cars. And then if you don't want it, they will "unplug" it. And give you that "pressure" sales story.

There is no value to that BS device. It actually weaken the OEM wiring system by gathering up all the important wires together, no?

I have a 2014 Acura RDX with the exact same button in the same location, and was also wondering what its function is.

Probably a button to reset the tpms light. I have a unlabeled button in a similar location it's for when I rotate my tires, to reset the light.

It's a dealer installed aftermarket security aka 'KARR'. They pre-install it , once the customer gives the dealer a go signal , they will just activate it. They save the time and hassle of wiring the car once it's officially rolling out from the lot.
