Default out of gear

Ok, when I'm crusing and I take my foot off of the gas I can pull my shifter into nuetral.
When I'm pressing on the gas I can't pull it into nuetral.

I just noticed this the other night, and I don't think its ever happened in my car before.
Whats up that can cuase this? When I did my swap back in March I put a short-shifter in. Can this cuase this since the throw is so much shorter? Its a B&M if it helps.
TIA
Brian

you can also put in gear w/o clutch if you synchro correctly about 3800 ~ 3500 rpm. Ive done it before not that I do it all the time, but it can be done.
