My crv had a jumpy idle for some time now but today it was dropping all the way down and stalling. When i popped the hood i noticed a loud knocking noise while its running (rough).. Could this be a timing/valveissue or camshaft?

valves typically sound more like a tick. did it make the noise before it started stalling?

 

No just after it started stalling.. I doubt it has anything to do with this but i just changed the oil yesterday oil levels are still good... Could a bad cam shaft sensor cause it to stall and make a noise?

 

it would throw the check engine light if it was a sensor, also ive never had a cam sensor go bad on a CRV but i have with other cars and they didnt start at all. though i have seen a K20 jump cam timing easy, it made a ticking sound and would not run, vavles hitting the pistons just slightly.

how many miles on the car?

 

133k on the car.. Ive had it for about 25k and never did a valve adjustment since ive owned it

 

alot easier to diagnose if i could hear it, never seen the lack of adjustment keep a car from running unless the valve breaks. any record of previous owner changing the chain/tensioner?

 

No i dont have any records for it.. Ill try to post a video of it tomorrow after work

 

It turns out i have a bad a/c pulley that was prob causing all these problems.. CAn i bypass the a/c with a shorter belt or do i have to buy an a/c pulley bypass?
