I bought 3 quartz and put it in than a buddy told me it turns to crap at high temps. Is this true or false I'm marking 400+whp stock trans open diff with carbon synchros about to order torco rtf..will the mtl be OK for next track event?

I have opened several b series trannys that had redline mtl in it. It turns to some sort of clay around syncros, bearings and sleeves. When a tranny starts to grind at high rpm shifts the redline mtl can make it dissapear. For a while.. After a while the bearing turns bad and the grinde comes back. I would not use it in any healthy tranny.

I have been using Redline light weight shock proof in my stock GSR gear box for a few years with no issues at all. A lot of high pulls and track passes as well

I dug up an old thread because Clm Cuhna mentioned mtl. I've heard some one else say mtl is bad for besrings

Why don't you try contacting redline and ask them?
Or synchrotech, those gentlemen know Honda transmissions.

I have always and still use redline mtl on stock transmissions. Never seen any unusal wear on anything. The shockproof stuff does leave a residue but I only use that for dog boxes.

I'm not saying it's the best by any means, just giving feedback. My brother and I both use it on our stock gear sets and never had any issues with grinding gears. We both put a TON of abuse on our transmissions. I have it changed it once a year and that's it

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately already ordered rtf cost me an arm and a leg. ,sounds like people love it or hate or don't know what they're talking about been trying to research how it holds up at high temps and why do or don't like the mtl. Knowing Clm runs redline makes me feel better about the mtl purchase. Do you use mtl in all stock trans Clm drag cars?

Don't know about MTL but on my stock gears GSR with ITR lsd trans, I've used both MT85 and MT90 and love them. No problems with either one, shifting is smooth as butter and when I changed the fluid after a season of racing and multiple trips to the dyno it still looked honey colored and transparent with no shavings. My supplier prefers me to use MT90, he says it can handle more heat.

He was on backorder at one point on Redline so he said to try out Royal Purple, can't remember which weight but it was suppose to be a similar to MT90. I didn't like it, shifting wasn't as smooth. It worked fine but just wasn't as smooth. After a few months he received a shipment of MT90, I drained my trans and poured in the MT90 and "voila," I had butter again.
