So Ive spent today swapping out a 96 spec S80's guts into a brand new casing. Taken me all day with a few standstills, finally onto the last stages of bolting bit's back onto the casing. I go to fit the shifter fork bolts (Pictured below) and they are a different thread! The ones I have from the old S80 are a slightly thinner diameter with a finer thread. Does anyone happen to know what the part number would be for the bigger pair that I need, or, would know how I could find it out?

Ok so been to see Mr. Honda. Its not a 24519-PB6-000 which seems to be what every single Honda uses!

He can't find any other part number for the same bolt

Its the bolt that came out of the old S80 as I'm just swapping everything over so it should be the same, but it's the only part thats not.

Sounds more like you have a stripped hole.

That is the same part number for Del Sols, Civic Si, Integras, CRV, ect... Have you tried the detent bolt without the spring to verify thread engagement?

Come on guys Ive not stripped the thread, I'm not a complete amateur!

It's a brand new casing from Honda (Part no's 21000-P21-020 and 21200-P21-505). Well at least the Clutch housing half is definitely that part number, the gearbox half I can't be sure as there was no number on the box and thats the half that houses the two shifter fork spring bolts.

The thread on the casing is clearly a courser thread with a slightly larger diameter. I'm going to test a few bolts in there to determine what thread it is.

On the note of stripping though thats the only reason I can see them changing to a courser thread on an aluminium casing?

Someone screwed up somewhere, All of those detent bolts are the same, D-series, B-series are all the same. Pretty sure H/F are too.

Mmm this is what I'm also learning towards - a somehow wrong threaded casing.

Guess I'll have to make my own bolt.

Either return the case or rethread the case, not the bolt.

Well the case thread is a larger diameter than the bolt.

If I can find a bolt that fits I can hallow it out to fit the spring.

Drill it and use a Time-sert.

The bolt length and the depth of the hole needs to be pretty precise. If they're not exactly right it wont shift right, you also have to drill a couple of tiny oiling holes in each bolt. Personally if I bought the case brand new I'd just return it and get another if it wasn't made right. A new case isn't cheap at all.

Hmm a fair point. Time-sert similar to helicoil? The casing is 'brand new' second hand form eBay. Maybe why I managed to pick it up cheap!

My guess is that someone stripped the bolts and rethreaded it to the wrong size. You will need a 12mmX100 helicoil or time-sert thread insert set to correct it for the OEM detent bolt.

It's like a helicoil but better.

Awesome, Ive got heli coils but I'll see if I can pick up a time-sert kit.

Do you think it will seal up ok or should I use a touch of Honda Bond?

The crush washer that goes under the bolt should seal it up.
