Default Gen 1 CRV Cruise Control Rapid Acceleration

Hey all,

I have had this "problem" for a while now but have blown it off till I forgot the other day and it scared the **** out of me! I don't know is this is just normal behavior of the Cruise Control Unit or mine just has a leadfoot.

When I am driving along and set the Cruise Control, it works great and keeps at the speed I set it. The problem is that when it drops to any more than a few MPH below my set speed (like going up an incline) it FLOORS the pedal to the ground and revs to like 5k to get back to the set speed again. It also does this when I resume the Cruise control, say if I slowed down from 60 to 45 due to traffic, then when I want to resume my 60 MPH speed, it will FLOOR the pedal all the way down, downshift, go to 5k, and get back up to my set speed as fast as it can. Once it is at speed it is fine and works as it should. The only way to keep it from doing this is to manually get the car within a few MPH of the set speed, then resume it.

Any thoughts on my leadfoot Cruise Control Unit?

Thanks!

Haha I know exactly what you are talking about, most of my Hondas have always done this. I think its just the nature of the beast...newer cars have far better cruise control.
