Adjusting cruise control

Adjusting cruise control
Is there any adjustment to the cruise control? The car is an 82 accord ek1 5 speed. When I set it it does vary the throttle, but keeps accelerating past where I set it. Maybe some info on how the system works? Thanks

Re: Adjusting cruise control
Urm, lets see... there is a speed sensor in the speedometer that sends VSS pulses to the control box. The control box tells the actuator to depress and release the gas pedal. There is adjustment on the actuator up under the hood, it's kinda obvious how that works. But I noticed on my car that if the speed sensor is putting out weird readings it won't quite work right.
The control box must be getting a speed sensor signal though, because if it's not there, it won't let you set the cruise at all. If your speedometer is wobbly at all, that messes up the VSS signal too, and replacing the speedo cable will help.
If you are going less than 23 or so mph, the cruise should not engage. Try activating it under that speed and see what happens. If it does activate at really low speeds, then you know it's either a control box issue or a VSS issue. If not, it's possible you need to replace the actuator.
I dunno though, I might try swapping out the control box with another one just to eliminate that out of the equation. It shouldn't really matter how the cable is adjusted, it's just simple logic circuit that pushes the gas if it thinks the car is going too slow.

Re: Adjusting cruise control
ya the speedo does bounce a little bit, that makes sense. Found a speedo cable for about 6 bucks so I'll give that a shot. The only purpose this car serves for me is a 40 mile haul @ 70, all highway so cruise is nice, but if I gotta get too deep in it I'll just use my foot. Thanks for the info
