Default ls/vtec build problems

Finished my ls/vtec build. Running b18a block with b18c5 pistons. New honda piston rings and acl bearings. Has a stock b16a2 head with arp head studs. Can anyone tell me how bad these are supposed to smoke during ring break-in? or how long it is supposed to last?

Should only smoke for half a min or so. Any longer then u either didn't shave the rings to the correct specs or u have oil leaking to the pistons, could also b headgasket not torque right.

When I built mine it only smoke for like 20seconds then it cleared up.

How many miles on the motor so far? Did u put some load on it right off the bat? U can always try a compression test keep in mind the numbers might be a bit low u sont have much carbon in the cyl yet but they should still be even.

This may sound stupid, but did you use new rings and have a fresh hone done on the block? Also did you clock the rings?

rings were clocked properly, block was freshly hones, rings gapped by the machine shop. went through the head bolt torque to ARP specs. Performed both a leak down and compression test. Numbers from the compression test are 210 across the board and the leakdown test showed 15% or less on a cold motor. Motor was run for approx. 20 mins at idle, fast idled at 2k rpms for 20 mins and shut down. Motor oil, filter and plugs were changed at that time.....

Sounds like you may just need to take it out, run it hard and get it hot and clear out the holes and see where you stand. Are we talking white. blue or black smoke? Does it smell like fuel?
