there's two sensors in the back of my block. one is ripped. and i had been running the car i guess without that sensor but idk what it's for cuz the car was running fine without it. there's a one prong sensor and a two prong sensor..could someone let me know what these sensors control or what they do? if they're important enough i might replace them. thanks

 

1 prong - low oil pressure warning switch
2 prong - radiator fan switch

Only 2 sensors?

Definitely NOT a radiator fan switch (water temp in the image below) back there.
If there were 3 then it would be back there, but on newer engines they relocated the radiator fan switch to the thermostat housing.
All that resides on the back of the engine are the oil temp and oil pressure.

 

I believe this to be correct.

However, there may be a knock sensor back there. Not sure what motor you have.

 

i think there were only 2 sensors... the engine is a d16a6. it's an 89 Honda Civic hatchback Si. it's at the machine shop and i won't be hearing from them till tomorrow so i can't check right now. can you buy these sensors anywhere? are they rare or can i get good quality sensors at like Oreilly autoparts or Autozone?

 

the 89 Si D16A6 has only 2 sensors on the back of the block (the pictures in the above response with 3 are of the OBD0 B18A1) - the larger 2-prong sensor is the cooling fan switch and the one-prong sensor is the oil pressure - the cooling fan switch connector has 2-wires, 1-black and 1-yellow with green stripe - the oil pressure sensor connector has 1-wire, yellow with red stripe

ok, good. so two sensors. does anyone know where the 1 prong sensor connects to? i took the engine out and on the 1 prong sensor the wire connector cap was on it, but it wasn't connected to anything. does anyone have a diagram? lol

Op never started which block. If it's a b16 then 1 sensor could be knock sensor.

should be a yellow with red stripe wire coming from the engine harness (comes out at about the same location as the cooling fan switch wiring and EACV wiring) - it goes from the switch on the block to the oil pressure warning light in the gauge cluster

thanks man!. i appreciate it. the actual cap that goes on the prong..is there anywhere i can find that? the cap was still attached to the sensor but it was ripped clean off with no wire excess hanging (if there was some wire, i could have just cut and soldered it back in to the engine harness) anyone have an idea of where to get that cap? junkyard my best bet?

 

Since the oil sensor didnt have a wire connected to it,
Means you were driving around with your oil light on and weren't aware if you had no oil pressure.
Brave man you are.

And for the cap, you could just snip off the junkyard Hondas
It can be off any Honda the wire as long as it has the oil prong switch
Also, to make it easier, you can snip the single wire female connector you need off any Honda that has a temp gauge switch because the male ends on both oil and temp gauge sensors are the same this making the female connecting wires the same

 

lol there was no light on. so im guessing the oil pressure light on my cluster doesn't work? as for the info, thanks, i appreciate it. heading to the junkyard tomorrow.

 

anyone know the flow rate that the injectors on the d16a6 put out? and if any other OEM honda injectors put out the same flow rate..

 

First off, when you turn the key does the oil light come on? If it doesn't them it is broken in the cluster. If it does, it means it is grounded out and not telling you about your oil pressure at all.

Secondly, the flow rate on the D16A6 should be 240cc like most honda injectors.

 

honestly i don't remember..it's been a while since i turned it on. and now the engine is out. but thanks, now i can look into seeing if it's grounded out somewhere. i just found a chart on here. and it says the d16a6 is 235 which isn't far from 240cc..do you know if it would be fine for me to run 240cc injectors even though my engine came with 235cc injectors? I'm going to the junkyard later on today
