Car will not go over 40mph after replacing timing belt
So my timing was off by 2 teeth but drove fine. I slipped off the belt but couldn't line it back up. Found out there was no crank key to keep the crank pulley from spinning when I tried to take it off with my electric power tool(crappy tool). I spun the cam shaft pulley around like 10 times with no belt attached. Timing was way off every time it started the car. It sounded like a motorcycle and idled like crap. So I just took everything off and bought new replacement parts and redid the timing. I lined up everything and it started just fine, idles just fine, but when I go and drive it. The car doesn't want to go over 40mph and feels like it has no power. Could I have bent a valve? Or messed up some rings so I have bad compression? This is over my head
who know it could be anything why not do a compression, and a leak down test before asking for help if one or both test show negative try adjusting the timing again, if it show positive then pull the head off and inspect for damage, just because you have all the marking align doesn't mean it in the correct timing position! did you use a timing gun and did you take off the distributor when you replace the part if so did you re-adjust the distributor to be in the correct position? alot of thing come into play and the only way to find out is to diagnose it one step at a time.
just spinning the engine by hand(even air tools) shouldn't bend valves even if it's off by a lot I've done it many a time. but as said comp test and see what's up.
