Default Engine Detailing Ideas

I just bought a '96 Accord and wanted to clean up the engine compartment. What's the best stuff to use? And the safest way to go about it without screwing something up under the hood?

Purple power or simplegreen or mean green, let sit for 10 min rinse. There is also a product called Aluma Bright, spray on let sit 3 sec and rinse off.

And avoid a pressure washer. Use water straight from the hose, no nozzle, to rinse.
