This and a pressure washer (or a hose with the adjustable "spray gun" attachment) will do the job... On a warm engine, spray liberally (lightly scrub heavily soiled areas), let soak for a few minutes, rinse with washer or hose... Dry whatever you can with a chamois and detail hoses with Armorall, if you wish... Just remember to cover the disributor and open air filter (if you have one) with plastic before cleaning to prevent water from going in...

make sure the car is warm, cover those two places, and spray simple green, or engine brite on let it sit for a min then spray off with pressure cleaner. Then go back see what you missed and where there is heavier dirt and spray again and scrub this time. Should come out gleaming. In some places i use a wire brush

Re: Cleaning The Engine (S.Celia)
i use cleaner/degreaser i find it works better then simple green and it is faster too...
you can buy it at smart&final they use it to clean the range hoods ... it dizolves the grease in there ... it is like 6 bucks a gallon

Re: Cleaning The Engine (Stripped Honda)
Also, once you're done cleaning the engine, always run the car for a while to evaporate any extra water. You don't want rust forming in there.
Here's what I blocked off when I cleaned my engine with Simple Green, a hose and a sponge.
- Fuse box
- Air filter
- All electronic connections
- Distributor, cap, ignitor coil and base of spark wires
- Spark plug boots where they mate with the valve cover
I just used garbage bags and duct tape to block all of these off. It left some parts dirty, but it still looked a lot better.
