Default ZC Temp

The owner before me put a big Godspeed radiator in my 89 dx. Not sure why he didn't go with the stock size, but other then added weight oh well. My question is, my temp never gets up to running temp unless I drive the car and let it sit running for about 5-10 mins, but the second I start driving it drops all the way back to cold and the idle jacks back up. My assumption is that the thermostat is stuck open, because even with a larger radiator the thermostat should stay closed until running temp is reached correct? Tired of car idling high because the temp is always too low. New thermostat ya? Thanks

yes.

not sure if that has any connection to your idle though.

sounds defnitely like its the thermostat.......when u drive the water circulates continouisly and dont get a chance to reach optimum temperature...either its stuck open or you dont have one in....

The fans really only help the radiator while your car is sitting still. While you are moving the air that naturally passes over the radiator is much greater than whatever those little fans are putting out. If his car warms up while staying still, but doesn't overheat, I don't see how this can be thermostat related at all.

Google how to troubleshoot a thermostat. It tells you to put it in boiling water and see if it opens.X All it does is activate the fans when it opens. It isn't blocking a passage or anything like that at all.

I have something off topic to say. Why is "....."? Is that better than a regular period? I also like caps. It gives the eye a resting place when reading through paragraphs. Something easy to go back and read.
dude a thermostat is a mechanical spring loaded valve that opens up when heated and closes when cold......how the hell can it activate a fan if it is a non electrical part.....i suggest u stop googling and actualy remove a thermostat to see how it operates......

p.s. a fan switch located near the thermostat activates the fans

See that's what I thought and if the thermostat was stuck open then the vehicle wouldn't warm up because the cooled coolant would be constantly flowing through. I bought a thermostat so now I just have to swap. Even if that's not the problem, for $10 at least I know the thermostat is new.
