I washed my engine bay once and the directions only said to cover the distributer. Spray on the degreaser and hosed it down later with water. Followed with some detailer which made everything shinny.

I need to wash it again too but I am lazy. Also afriad to damage anything now that I am not NA.

Simple green rules! I dunno what to cover when washing an engine but i washed my empty engine bay while changin motors and it was covered in mud aka "georgia red clay" and simple green took it right off with a pressure washer.

I just did mine yesterday with Simple green. Awesome stuff!! I used about 90% SG and 10% water. Just spray it on let it sit, hose it down. BIG difference for my bay. I covered my altenator and various wires I though might cause a problem.
Fired right up afterwards and I even found my exhaust leak!

sometimes the dizzy is what makes the engine look dirty, has anyone ever carfully detailed it. lt me know.

It is just that the metal around it is so grimey I would like to clean t up a bit.

How about an engine that is out of the car? My B16 is covered in 13 year old gunk, and I don't really wanna spray it with a hose. What is the best chemical to clean it with by hand?

Dont bother repeating anything. Get terpintine (I cant spell I know) Dump a little on the block wipe it down with it. A buddy of mine showed me this. 13 year old gunk should be no problem. Then just hose it off.

To clean my motor i used non chlorinated brake parts cleaner, it works well my motor was covered in grime, before i used brake parts cleaner on it, it worked better than any degreaser i could find.
