so I have a 92 civic with automatic transmission that is having problems when going into gear. when I shift to R it goes then I shift to D4 still works but if I try to shift to R again it acts like its in Neutral and wont do anything. I try to shift manually from 1-D4 still nothing car wont go into gear its just revs when I gas it. I have to turn it off and on until it goes away and then itll happen again. it only runs good when you turn it on and drive away once I get to a stop the car acts like its in neutral and I have to turn off and on until it decides to go in gear. am lost checked the tranny fluid bright red no burn smell no cel jumped the cel and no codes tried a different computer and acts the same. what can it possibly be??

 

****UPDATE TRANSMISSION IS MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AND WONT GO INTO ANY GEARS..

 

Drop pan and see how much is on your magnet. Its most likely time to replace this transmission. Otherwise, find a service manual for this car and go through the Tshooting process. In the mean time, search for posts by RonJ about his auto trans and resolutions.

if it is not moving then most likely your trans has been slipping and is finally now has completely went out.... this is what automatic transmissions do when the clutches go out. its a wet style clutch so if one disc goes out they all go at the same time...
