Default vtec engagement issue

Hello I have a issue with my vtec engagement. I just got my gsr b18c1 put together with eagle rods and wiseco 11.5.1 pistons. I have stock cams in it. It engages vtec in 2nd gear and the beginning of 3rd then at about 6800 rpms it drops out of vtec and throws a CEL. I even wired up the vtec oil pressure switch up to a toggle switch so it would see normally opened which is the equivalent when the oil pressure is high enough to engage and keep it normally closed on start up. Could too much knock or any other scenario disengage the vtec signal from the ecu to to the solenoid. Any input would be greatly appreciated. i dont have hondatta so I really cant see whats going on inside the ecu.

do you have any kind of engine management or have you had it tuned yet?

does cel stay on afterwards or does it turn back off?
