Completed my Morimoto Mini retrofit. Finally...
97 Civic EX. bougt a set of stock replacement headlights from Ebay for 60 bucks. already had a set of Morimoto Mini D2S projectors from retrofitsource.com, so I baked the new lights and puled them apart. the projectors slid right in like they were made to fit in there.... Granted they pretty much were, but oh well. Dont judge me. Finally got around to ordering my bulbs and relay harness last week. parts arrived today and they are finally IN!!
I used GTI shrouds, and since the chrome was all donked up on them I painted them... Copper.... Now that they are on the car Im not sure that was such a good choice. Oh well. I will run them like this for a while and if I cant get used to the color I will order a set of new shrouds and leave them chrome.
I had taken pics of the assembly, but my phone crashed and I lost them, so all I have are my installed pics from today. assembly was really simple. I mean Geico caveman simple. If anyone is trying to do this and needs help I can easily rip one apart again and take pics of it all.
Now without further ado, here they are...

Crappy pic, but Ill get a better one later once the sun is cooperating with me...

and last night I went out and found a blank wall to aim these on... Guess the alignment is a little off. Oh well. I tried to use the CNC cut alignment plates that came with the projectors. guessing they are off. headlights are in the oven now baking so I can tear them apart again and remove the plates. I will align them by hand. And I might respray the shrouds.....
That retro looks really good. Now we just need some of your "aligned" shots of the projectors. How much did it for the set of minis? I've been thinking about doing it to my em1. Kind of skeptical about baking and regluing the headlights tho. Definitely never done that before
housings Ebay $60
Projectors $120
Harness $30
Bulbs $50
Shrouds $30
AMP to D2S adaptors $15
Total $305? Not sure about shipping...
I just checked TRS and for a complete setup (ballasts, bulbs, projectors, harness, shrouds) it is $270. then you need housings if you dont want to rip apart your current housings. these can be found on Ebay for around 60. Its really simple to do.
all the parts were sourced from www.theretrofitsource.com minus the ballasts and housings. I already had the ballasts from www.DDMTuning.com (55W) so I just used those.
I think I am going to order a set of the mini H1's and make another pair of these... But Im going to do a couple things different. and better aligned output shots will be up Saturday I think.

Its really simple to do. Lights go in the oven at 150-200 for about 5 mins, then you can pry the outer clear lens off, and the projectors just slide in the light bucket from the front. Then reheat the housings and lens to re-soften the glue and press and clamp them back together. that's really all it is. that's whats is so great about these Morimoto Mini projectors. they make this Geico simple. I think when I had to re align my projectors it took me about an hour and a half from start to finish... That includes pulling the bumper and lights off my car and then re-installing everything...
