Tired of getting screwed on headlights…
Hey all,
I’ve got a 00 Civic 2D, EX and I have been trying to effectively upgrade my headlights. I’ve gotten 2 different sets off eBay, and that was just a bad idea, luckily I was able to return their shotty products to them. So I am trying to find a good set of projectors that will have an acceptable fit to OE, a good beam pattern, and can stand some heat from some high discharge bulbs.
Anyway, can anyone recommend something? I’ve looked into TYC, and those look pretty good. But I just want to know if they will stand up to a PIAA bulb, and fit nicely? (Harness and all) I’m worried about them melting or making a nice stir fry out of my wiring…
I’m trying not to spend 800 dollars on my lighting setup and retrofit BMW HIDs in my housings. I know it can be done and they look sweet, I just don’t trust myself to try that kind of a mod yet. I’m just after some nice looking, durable, effective projectors that I can put some PIAAs in or something. I’m just at my wits end with all the crappy aftermarket crap out there…
Thanks so much!

Yeah I would also like to know. If you're bitching that they aren't bright enough put some Silverstars in there and call it a day.

yeah, why not use oem headlights with like Silverstar bulbs or something? HID's usually have a horrible glare unless theyre fit and have the right projectors... they suck for other drivers..

ehh... they tend to melt stock harnesses if you're not lucky. i had 85 watt bulbs and my bulb plugs started to melt a bit.
the newest TYC lights have pretty good patterns, evenly spread, with a sharp cutoff. they use h1 bulbs, just like normal cars. most other projectors use H3's, which are meant for foglights, hence the shitty pattern.

Exactly. If you're putting HIDs at the same time with projectors, go for it, otherwise leave the stock headlights in and get good bulbs. If your headlights are in poor condition and just want cleaner ones, go for stock.

Liar .
TYC One-Piece Projectors for 92-95 Civic. Excellent cutoff, excellent light distribution, much brighter than stock, plug and play. I bought them because a truck ran over the front of my car, destroying my stockers, but I would recommend the TYC products to anyone looking to replace the OEM with something reliable.

I still think the projectors a horrible at distributing halogen lighting for headlight use. HIDs in the projectors would be nice.

Not Sylvania Silverstar, i was pourly disappointed with them. I had some off brand xenon buld adn they were brighter, but one of them went out after about a year i haven't tried to find another set that was brighter and would last though.

Would you not agree that BMW's, Lexus's, Audi's, etc. have the best lighting? If so, then why are you ******* around? Do an OEM retrofit and be happy. It's $300 for parts, $10 for wiring, $10 for relays and about 2 days at most of your time.

Re: Tired of getting screwed on headlights… (Tupoint4)
Hey guys, thanks for all the feedback.
I actually am running Silverstars in my OEM sockets, and don't get me wrong, they rock. But, like Gambit said, just looking for a new look. And yeah, Audis, Beamers, Lexus, Nissans with the Xenons look sweet, and being behind the wheel of them just makes your drive that much more enjoyable. (I think).
Definitely considering the TYC now. Still, not sure if they can handle a powerful bulb. I actually got a sweet deal on some Spark White-Blue PIAAs for dirt cheep from the dealership I used to work for. So I kinda wanted to make use of them.
On the other hand, I am totally considering the HID retrofit, but I just don't trust myself to perform the operation myself yet. Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial or DIY site that might show me what it all entails?
Thanks again guys! I needed some help. (Just for the record, I'm not knocking stock. Just wondering if there was a stylish and functional upgrade.)

Why the hell has no one mentioned PIAA?
If you want the best quality aftermarket bulb, get PIAA. Yea there a little more pricy, but my 96 Civic seriously put out more light with the Platinum bulbs I got. H4 OEM replacement, and I can see farther at night. I kid you not, its OEM quality, they have lasted 2 years, and are the best. Got em for 40 bucks new off ebay. Theres a reason rally cars use this name. They are just fantastic.
Hell, i got complimented on my "HID retrofit" till i told the guy they were just H4 stock style bulbs. PIAA man, over sylvania anyday.

Re: Tired of getting screwed on headlights… (Kayura)
I am looking for a set of plastic Lexan OEM like headlights (not projector) to run on the track. Glass headlights that break on a track day = alot of pissed off people.
