98-0189 CW Rebuild Thread
Been really busy with the house, family, and work, so finally got around to posting pictures of the ITR and what has been going on with her (all my vehicles are female). I brought her down from North Carolina at the end of July, and immediately began collecting parts for service and replacement parts.
August-
Initial work done was new set of 205/15 tires and an inventory of what was missing or needed to be replaced.
Started in with a good detail, clay the paint, and a couple coats of Zaino polish.
Exterior after polish:

Interior before detail (much cleaner now and parts replaced:

Motor and engine bay are clean. Just missing Air Conditioning!

Spent some time in August ordering a bunch of parts from Delray Acura, and tracking down all the A/C parts and some other parts from Craigslist and H-T. Thanks to everyone on the boards who helped out!
Cleaning the A/C parts:

Organizing and inventorying the Honda OEM parts:

September-
Not much done in September except to buy some more parts. Got new stainless steel brake lines, and rotors and pads. August and September are just too hot to drive without A/C, so she stayed in the garage. Pardon the mess in the garage. Had everything just thrown in there. Looks much better now; but still not all the way done. More on this later.

Also had to find the parts to put the back seat and seat belts in. I have a 7 year old, so gotta have a back seat and seat belts.

Scored a JDM complete rear seat and set of OEM optional side skirts as her side skirts were all beat up. Also more on this adventure to replace the side skirts in the October post.

October-
So I finally got the hitch on the front of the truck to be able to get the ski boat into the garage straight. All of you with side load garages know how much of a pain in the *** that is, especially if you have a big ol’ truck like mine.

Anyways after the ordeal of moving everything around and trying to get organized, I thought “Well lets start knocking some of these projects on the IT R out”. Thought I would knock out the side skirts first. Pics are not great but you can see both side skirts have deep scratches from curbs or something.

After doing some internet searches of how to remove them, I thought it would only be an hour’s job, and would be able to re-use the clips that hold the skirts on. Lesson learned here: Those damn plastic clip insert things with the little Phillips head in the center are not designed to be re-used. Out of the ten on my ITR, only ONE came out and could be re-used. I had to pry the other ones out, and they are useless.
So off came the side skirts, only to find damage on the driver’s side. Skirt was crushed a little; but obviously was worse than it looked. Not to mention the amount of dirt and debris in there. Looked like a pound of dirt came out of each side.

The body seam was all bent up, and of course one of the body clips is broken. Well now more $$ with Acura. Got the seam straightened and both sides cleaned up.
Next up is dealing with the wheels. They are Rota Slips; but they just will not come clean. The brake dust is burned on there, and now the finish is wasted. Thankfully my friend does powder coating at his wheel shop. Just cannot decide to stay black, or go CW.

I noticed that yesterday when I took my rear bumper off the amount of dust and dirt in there, and now I am wondering about my stock sideskirts.
Did you end up buying more of those clips from the dealer too? I probably will be paint matching mine eventually on my LS as I dont like the textured look and it looks like I better be prepared in having all the parts ahead of time.

Will do. Thanks. Car account is pretty depleted right now; but soon.
Ya I ended up getting two of the body clips in case I break one at $2.50 a piece, and 12 of the black, what Acura calls "air scoop clips" at $2.75 each. Nothing like almost $40 for $2 of plastic. I can post the part numbers if you want them.

So finally got around to getting some more work done. I have some lessons learned from the installation of the side skirts too.
#1 Go ahead and bite the bullet on replacing all the clips. They are designed for one time use. Part #'s below
90688-SB0-013- Clips with screws in the middle for the underside of the skirts. You need 10 for stock, or 12 for optional skirts.
91513-SM4-000- Side sill clips. Definitely one time usage. See #2.
#2 Don't be a dumbass like me and try to slide the skirt back onto the side sill clips. Spent an hour trying to get it on before my wife comes out, and said "Why don't you try removing the clips, putting them on the skirt, them popping the skirt on?" Maybe I should have not been having "adult beverages" while doing this
So once the side skirts were back on, it was time to move onto the interior. Need to put the rear seatbelts back in, back seat, fix the hatch actuator, and trouble shoot the non-functioning power antenna.
I started by pulling the rear and side panels, and about choked on all the dust behind them. Remember this caR was from North Carolina, and must have been on dirt roads quite a bit. You can see the line between the clean hatch floor and where the panels fit.
Carfax showed no accidents, and the good thing about pulling the panels was that I was able to see all the body seams back there, and visually verify everything looks good. Now onto cleaning and getting the interior back in.
More to come...........

The side still clips are removed by turning them 90 degrees and pulling them out. I have switched between the OEM and Optional skirts a couple of times without having to replace the clips.
Ya that is how I got them out too. Unfortunately some of mine were pretty worn and were not holding very well when popped back in.
I'm just posting so I can find this thread later. Currently all of the pics aren't working. I purchased this itr and working towards making it closer back to stock!
