Default 1993 Civic decided it would vacation on the interstate today

Hi Guys:

Thanks to everyone for helping me to get this thing going last week.

But now it decided it no longer liked to be sitting at the house and decided to turn off on him on the interstate.

I tried cranking it and it turns over, but will not catch.

I could not hear whether the fuel relay clicked or not since we were on the interstate..... trucks racing by a few feet away upside down from the passenger seat leaning into the drivers side trying to remove it did not help either So in the process of getting it towed.....

All that said it is a 93 civic, 15b7

Is there any other relay/fuse that makes this thing turn off while driving that I am missing?

Even better am I trouble shooting this thing correctly?

Thanks

So its not gonna hurt the car to turn it off while moving in gear?

Id pull the line from the fuel filter and run it to a can and then crank it over to make sure you are getting fuel. If that checks out, start with the ignition system, spark, etc...

Thanks. I am getting fuel. I ended up doing the following and it started yesterday then would not start this morning:

> Used a post by Ron to solder master relay still no hum
> Found another master relay at yard still no hum
> Used another post by Ron to Tshoot wires in master relay harness; no power to wire 1 which said to check fuse; swapped it and connected battery got power ; connected relay and the relay hummed and car started up yesterday
> this morning went to start car; got hum and now just cranks

Beyond frustrated with this car..... Any ideas on where to go next?

Are you getting spark? Pull one of your plug wires with the plug in it, crank the car over while grounding the spark plug to the valve cover. Check for spark>No spark>Check ignitor. GL

Yup both the fuel relay and the igniter can cause intermittant no start, I've dealt with both, and the igniter can either flake, or die completely. I think it was a problem because some aftermarket companies redesigned the dizzy because the igniter can overheat. I think maybe Honda added a heat sink later.

Anyway, there are steps you can take after seeing the plugs are not sparking to troubleshoot the igniter...

Ok I will check for spark as soon as I get home. I have a couple of igniters so I may just swap one out to see if that is the issue as well. Thanks guys and I will let you know

Sorry about the delay.

The truck's starter needed some love yesterday.

That said I swapped out the igniter, but since the "new" one has 3 holes instead of 2 holes, I could not bolt it back to the heat sink mounted to the dizzy. So I taped it :D.

And it fired right up. I got it out of a newer Civic I want to say a 97 or 98. So what risk am I taking with the tape and using another ignitor out of another model?

:D

Thanks guys for leading me to swapping the igniter.

d15b7 ingnitors are quick easy to find. You can use one off any d series engine IIRC. That tape is just a disaster waiting to happen. Glad I could help !

Thanks man..... But apparently it may be something else..... . Died on him again today..... Starting to notice it only dies when it is cold. Should I just buy a dizzy and if I do does it come with the wiring harness?

If you used a gray Hitachi igniter where there was previously an OKI/NEC igniter you'll need grind down two nubs on the aluminum bracket for it to fit.

Should I put some heat sink compound between the ignitor and the heat sink? Also would a bad dizzy cause the car to cut off while driving?
