$4100 for gsr swap?
Hello HT. So I was looking for motor swaps on Hmotors aswell as Craigslist and ran into an ad on CS of a GSR motor for $3000 (complete changeover). The ad belonged to a shop called Ballade Sports. They do all kinds of work on vehicles and they quoted me $4100 for the swap aswell as installation, engine mounts for my 99 civic, a 99 civic Si trans bracket from Honda, oil, trans oil, coolant, sparkplugs, mounts, and wiring of civic harness for knock sensor. Here is their review on yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/ballade-sports-garden-grove

1100$ for pulling a motor, dropping in the new one and plugging up a harness seems a bit pricy for me. I know theres other little stuff that needs to be done but its honestly not that difficult. Do you have any experience with doing work like that?
Hmotors currently has a list of people looking for GSR swaps. I tried to get a gsr lsd trans and they wont seperate. I dont think a $1k is that much considering thats only about 10 hours labor. I would also add a new water pump, timing belt and tensioner so you know it will be good for a while. It will be easier for the shop to change now while the engine is out.

Average cost to pull motor, install all gaskets on new motor and install is $800-1000. It does sound a little high still! Are they giving you any kind of warranty with that price tag?
I paid $1500 for my 98 GSR swap w/ 80k miles. New OEM water pump and OEM timing belt. $500-700 for misc. parts( hasport mounts, gsr engine harness ect.) I did the swap myself and was very simple. I got to keep all my new tools and managed a few upgrades for cheaper than paying someone to do it.

For a GSR swap done by a shop should be anywhere from $3000-3400. $2000-2500 for the swap and $700-900 for labor. Now with that said, that is with you providing any parts needed, mounts, axles (if needed) etc, you can easily find all the parts needed from your local craigslist or HT for sale threads.

I find that to be a fair price. it seems simple if you can or have done it or have the tools and space to do so... not everyone can or will.. 4100 for a full swap chang over from a single cam sounds about right. the tools and experience to do a swap right can add up quick or be troublesome.
