Intro - and Pilot ignition issue
We've driven Hondas for years. Right now we have an '05 Acura RL, '03 Pilot, '97 Accord. Before these there were two other Accords and two Legends. I do 100% of the maintenance and repairs.
Most recently the Pilot's ignition switch acted up - key didn't go in or come out easily, sometimes wouldn't turn. It's a security key, face-cut on both sides. Ther car has an imobilizer that's matched to the key so by the time a dealer does the whole dance the bill can knock you over.
I took out the lock (without disconnecting the battery) The problem was worn tumblers or levers in the lock barrel. I took out the three offenders and it's all fine now - no new parts, no trip to the dealer, no cost except my time. Technically the lock is operable by more honda keys now, but the imobilizer narrows that down somewhat. Anyway my wife is happy we didn't spend hundreds at the stealership.
