Default 2004 Honda Accord Ignition Key Won't Turn

This Honda has a Viper security system so it can be started remotely but once your put your foot on the brake to try to turn the ignition key the car shuts off and the key will not turn. What should we do?

Howdy,
One or more of your "tumblers" have dropped out of position inside your ignition cylinder.
Your viper remote start works because it is bypassing the mechanical switch and reading an emulated key installed inside the viper device.

Honda will tell you, you must replace entire lock assembly which will cause your car to use 2 keys instead of 1 (1 for door/1 for ignition) and run you about $600-$800.
A better option however is to contact a local REPUTABLE locksmith and have them rebuild the ignition. Usually price will range about 300-500.

If you can turn a wrench you can remove the entire ignition assembly yourself and install a new one, Then you will just need programming of immobilizer parts (key and/or immo ecu). But again you will need 2 key system with this option.

I've had a similar problem on the Accord I was able to turn the ignition ounce the key was inserted but I wasn't able to remove it. You would have to jiggle and play with it until it would come out, sometimes taking up to 20min. And then eventually it wouldn't even turn.
I had to remove the cylinder lock from the ignition and disassemble it and remove the little pins inside. The downside was the you could turn the ignition on with anything flat enough to fit, but you weren't able to start it without the key. **take pictures of what your disassembling so you don't forget or mess up, putting it back together. Because, it's a few tiny parts and springs inside.
