Default LSVTEC COMPRESSION #'s and plug pics

OK, so I started noticing that I'm going through oil pretty quickly. Decided to do a compression test. I took off the injector clips and wires off and hooked up the tester and just let it crank till the needle stopped moving. Im running a stock obd1 p72 gsr motor, stock intake manifold, throttle body , headers, everything is stock except an intake Check out the pictures of spark plugs and my numbers and tell me what you think please. #'s were 180,165,175,190

I only have probably 2000 miles on with the lsvtec. yeah 3rd one was the worst.... what could it be? Or is it nothing to worry about? I'm going to google how to do the leakdown test... Also this was done with the motor cold and not WOT.

Under 200psi and you'll start to feel it...240+ is ideal for a healthy engine. I'm guessing it runs a bit rich judging by the outer edge of the plug.

yeah well I was thinking it was running rich because I never got the ecu tuned after doing the swap and when I floor the car I see a cloud of smoke and it smells. Also, I bought a P72 off ebay and don't remember if the guy put his own "default" tune.

do a wet compression test white smoke on hard acceleration would make me say piston rings(wet test to determine). try getting a chipped ecu for your set up instead of some guys attempt to tune his own car.

To be honest I don't know what color it is but if I had a guess from how many times I saw it I would say black. I only notice it at night time if someone is behind me and I decide to floor it and look at my side view mirrors then see smoke coming out.

the wet test is putting a teaspoon of motor oil right and see if it does anything to the numbers?

^yup

too hard to make a call in the night if you can have someone drive the car for you and follow and see how black the exhaust is when they floor it.

true i'll probably try that out tomorrow. How much would the numbers jump by?

So as far as the plugs though they are burning good but just a buildup like im running rich right?

Can't say...if it's over 20psi of a jump you've got problems. yes or burning/leaking some oil.

Yup^

don't be alarmed if it stumbles on first start up. Unplug the dizzy, just incase you didn't on the first go wouldn't want to fry your coil.

Sounds like you washed the rings out. Never put an unknown ecu on a motor you put together. Also tune the motor right away so you don't take the chance of running in the motor lean (detonate) or too rich (washing rings out).

HG is super easy to replace lol piston rings....yah not so much it involves ripping the block apart and then once you're done honing and re-ring gotta check all those clearances. Big PITA

Ok so we didn't do a wet test because we used his gauge at the shop once hot and another cold and got numbers same on all cylinders both times
210 200 200 205. He says it might be the valve stem seals which I had changed when I sent the head to the machine shop
