Icon6 F22 VTEC conversion 5000 rev limit ???

Hey everyone, I'm new here and figured someone may have run across this over the years and know what the heck I'm dealing with. I started with a stock 95 Accord LX, F22 sohc non Vtec auto. Engine was tired so I went through it, fully balanced rotating assy., shot peened rods, milled the head for 10:1 and put a F22 Vtec head on it. I kept the stock distributor, relocated the coil, ran the 2 wires for driving the Vtec and installed a new PCM from a like year, auto Vtec Accord. Oh, and adjustable cam gear. During break in I used the non vtec computer and it would fall on it's face at 3000 rpm, that was it. After the Vtec computer install it would run pretty good but feels like it is out of the power band towards 5000, not really pulling like it should and then the rev limiter kicks in about 5100 ish, Sometimes 5500 if it wants to. (Before I rebuilt it, it would run to 6500 and limit.) It has great driveability down low, good tq. I have no idea if I'm dealing with a timing issue, Vtec issue, wrong computer?? (dist is clocked as far as it will go to get timing light really close but not dead on.) I have to run 91 to prevent pinging. I'm at the point where I'd like to really see what it has and deal with this. Full exhaust and intake are in the works. Have a turbo and intercooler for it, just not sure if that's the route i want to go. Thanks for any help

Did you take out the oil restrictor when you did the head swap? Does it have a oil pressure switch on the vtec solenoid? Some ecu's may limit rpm if oil pressure at the vtec solenoid isn't high enough. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about.

That seems interesting my 95 accord f22b1 vtec is the exact same! No CEL mines a 5-speed and it just doesn't wanna rev and mine limits at 5800rpm rather than 5000-5100(5k limit is not getting hot enough). Since I replaced the thermostat honda oem, full fresh oil and filter, new ngk plugs, ect under distributor, vtec solenoid, vtec oil pressure switch, vtec gaskets. It now is hot enough since the new thermostat allowed it to heat up, it'll now rev limit at 5700-5800 and vtec doesn't engage. Is it possible that the oil control orifice is clogged or gasket failed preventing proper pressure to build? I'll check that as soon as I can. I wanna adjust the valves too, they are a bit noisy but the bottom end seems a bit noisy for my taste. I want to replace the harmonic balancer to clean up the noisy bottom end.

Thanks

If VTEC was not activating the engine would not be able to rev much beyond 3K rpm under load/while driving. If the engine is 'cutting out' at 5800 while under load, it simply may be the Tachometer is inaccurate.

Pretty common for the tach to begin failing and read inaccurately at higher rpms. Best way to verify is to use an auxillary tach, either one on a timing light or a cheapy Equus brand tach, to verify RPM. Below 1500 the tach will match auxillary tachs, but beyond that it will have a progressively larger change. ~2Krpm on the dash may actually be ~2700, ~3K on the dash may be 4Krpm actual and so on.

The B2 has an oil orifice inside the block. It needs to be removed to allow oil pressure to reach the B1 head.
