What is this part and do I need it? - Leaking coolant
Hey guys! I have a 95 Civic hatch with the D15B7 engine.
I recently replaced the transmission because the old one was starting to have issues. I noticed when I put everything back together that there is a piece just under the throttle body that is attached with two phillps head screws. It has a short hose attached that ends somewhere under the intake. There is also a "nipple" to attach a smaller hose(Maybe 1/8") that faces down. I believe the piece is the fast idle valve, but I dont know for sure. If it is, what does a fast idle valve actually do?
Anyways, That smaller nipple does not have a hose attached to it, and I cant actually find anywhere for the other end of the hose to go, even if it did have a hose. Also, it seems like the gasket in between that piece and what it attaches to is leaking coolant. If this part isnt important, could I just bypass it somehow? I think I remember seeing some people do that on performance cars, but I could be wrong. I dont want to do it for performance reasons(obviously.. I have the relatively crappy 1.5l) I just want it to stop leaking for the least amount of money and if it isnt needed there is no reason to fix it.
Any advice is appreciated!
Here are some pictures. It is what the hose with the rusty clamp attached to it is. The last picture shows the nipple on the bottom of it that has no hose. I apologize for the crappy pictures. They were taken last night with my phone.

This is your FITV.
It work when your car is cold, let pass a little more air in the intake manifold
to raise your rpm's till the car warms up.

Ah I see, so it is handy to have for warming up my car properly. Is that nipple on the bottom supposed to be attached to a hose or is it fine the way it is?
