Default OBD-I OBD-II / smog isuues

Background

Alright I have a 96' integra ls. This means that the car falls into the OBD-II category. The guy I bought the car from swaped in a 94' motor (OBD-I). I am still running the OBD-II wiring harness with the 96' ecu.

The problem

The OBD-I blocks didn't have a crank angle sensor. The wiring harness has a plug for the sensor but it isn't plugged into anything. This is causing the check engine light to come on. I took the car to marin acura and the only thing they could think of was re-wiring the the entire car and putting in a 94' ecu.

Possible Soloution

I have been told that I can avoid re-wiring the entire car ($2,200) by using the skunk2 or holeshot OBD-II to OBD-I conversion harness and the 94' ecu. Has anyone every heard of this being done, or does anyone know if this will solve my problem with the check engine light? I can't smog my car until the light is off.

you can do that wire harness conversion or u can just buy an obdII oil pump. whatever you dont spend 2200 bucks on re wiring the whole car. any other questions?

Just wondering but how would replacing the oil pump solve my problems? If that will work than that would be great, and no there is no way that I would spend $2200 on re-wiring the car.

the new oil pump has the crank sensor in there and it would fix your crank sensor problem. another one is, obdII has 2 o2 sensors, now did he hook those up also?

Yes I know it is illegal, and that is exactly why I can't pass smog. I am gonna look into this oil pump thing. Otherwise I am gonna go with the conversion harness. I would just prefer to save some money so I can finish my vtec conv.

When did you take your smog? Didn't the place hook up an ODB2 plug to your car during the smog process? I was told that I couldn't pass cuz of that. No communication with the car's ecu through the OBD2 plug.

Thats the point. I can't take a smog test. Having the 94 motor with the 96 ecu and electronics is causing my check engine light to come on. So from what I understand this will turn off my light and I will be able to pass smog.

yes. i passed smog down at the local texaco station 2 years ago with my converted as obdI and it was suppose to be obdII. i didnt see them hook my car up to any gadgets for obdII. they check all the vacuum lines and made sure i didnt have any thing unplugged.

but this year i have to smog again..i was gonna take it to a regular ole smog place but i got a ref ticket.
