Ok so I was getting home parking and when I parked my car started making a honderous clacking noise. When I depress the clutch it goes away. Im guessing this is the throwout bearing. What I want to know is how this happens and what can I do to fix it? Before I drop the tranny can it be something like my clutch cable being to tight or something. My clutch engagment point is very close to the ground. I havent driven it but it still goes into gears etc..

 

Throw out bearings, just like the clutch plate, go bad with time. It's probably just an easy fix. Your bearing probably split apart or something like that and is clacking against the pressure plate.

It shouldn't be your cable, but your cable is easy to adjust if it is a cable actuated clutch. You just go to the trans, pull up on the clutch cable and tighten the black nut on the top a little. Then check where it now engages inside the car.
