Garrett gt30-r recent refresh
Hey Guys, I have a garett gt-30r that I was going to use in my old build but I have decided to start a new project. I bought this second hand and then had it professionally refreshed just to make sure all was good. It hasn't been installed since. I don't know a ton about turbos but I was told that this would spool nicely on a 4cyl or 6cyl and that it is rated for up to 525 hp. These go on ebay for about 1200-1300 but I am pricing for quick sale. 850 obo shipped and paypal'd This is an awesome turbo but I don't need it anymore. Thanks

Not to rain on your parade but that has an old design chra and isn't water cooled. Which means it can't beball bearing. The ball bearing Garrett turbos require water cooling to keep the bearings functional.
Also a ball bearing chra cannot be rebuilt. So you might want to double check what you have is indeed a true gt30r, as water cooled chra and ported shroud s cover were standard on most units

Wellfor starters the center section is a dead giveaway, as it has no provisions for water cooling nor does it resemble a more modern, newer garrett GTR series center section. no water cooling is a dead giveaway that the turbo is not ball bearing. Now they do make a non ball bearing version of the GT 30, but its worth far far less. Your turbo might be worth $400 tops.
the only way to know for sure is to pull both the compressor housing in the turbine housing of the turbo and measure each wheel with the set of dial indicator or digital calipers. Only then will you know for sure what you have because Garretts ball bearing intersections cannot be "refreshed". a few people can rebuild a ball bearing center section for Garrett but is by no means affordable, A new center section genuine from Garrett is the only real way that you can have a new turbo
So measure the wheels and post here or pm me your measurements. I'd be more than happy to correctly identify your turbo for you so you can get it sold
Another quick test is look up the oil return. If you see a shiny silver shaft it's journal bearing. If you see a big brass or silver cage/tube looking thing (it's big, much bigger than the shaft and will take up the entire hole when you see it
Also spin it. Ball bearing turbos spin for a few seconds, unlike journal bearings which stop spinning immediately
