If you could take it to some engine shop they could test for leaks for a few bucks. Otherwise, flip it upside down and check for scratches and scoring or pitting. If they are deep - beyond resurfacing - do not trade! You would have to have it welded. It may get expensive. Look up in a manual how to check for warping surface with a straight edge and some thickness gauges. Just like on this picture:

how much is a few bucks. please give me an idea before i make a few phones call to shops. ill google pictures of pitting and scoring because i dont know what they look like. if you have already pictures please post them. i looked at wiki real quick and d15b is jdm engine as i thought. so a manual will be an effort to aquire. i will start a help thread for that. then continue researching. i hope i dont get chewed out by HT members.

This is one of the heads I disposed of because of pitting:

It was still weldable, but it would have cost me more than a fresh(er) head would.
As far as testing prices - you should call around first and ask local shops for prices - that would give you an idea. Just tell them what you are thinking about getting, and they will tell you what they can test for, how much it is going to cost, and how much it is going to cost to fix a potential problem.
