i changed both front axles in my crv about a month ago because a boot was ripped on my driver side and as i was replacing both front springs my passenger inner cv joint disconnected inside of the boot. about a week later i noticed a puddle under my car and realized my passenger side axle popped out, so i hammered it back in and filled it back up. i think its fine and a week ago my trans started making a high pitch wine, check the axle and see it popped out AGAIN. didn't have tools with me that moment to slam the axle back in or to add fluid. (driving to friend's house 45 mins away). i go to put it in 5th and it makes an awful high pitch wining noise, almost as if it was a straight cut gear. pull it out of gear quickly and then it wouldn't go into any gear. my friend meets me where it happened and we put the axle back in and fill the trans up. i replaced that axle with one from autozone (other one was from carquest) and did a trans fluid flush but 5th gear is still making that noise and 4th makes the slightest noise. any clue as to what the problem is. i already know that more than likely i will be dropping the trans and opening it up.

cliffs:
replace both from axles
passenger one kept popping out
ran too low on trans fluid
get stranded after loud wine while in 5th
replace passenger axle again and flush fluid
still makes a lot of noise in 5th, as if it was a straight cut gear

 

5th gear is probably burnt from lack of fluid. It's furthest out and gets starved for fluid first.
