Default Need advice on engine rebuild.

I have a 1990 EF and i want a little more power, but nothing really crazy because this is my daily driver. It was a DPFI that I swapped to MPFI.

I have a Z6 that needs to be rebuilt as it spun a rod bearing.

Just wondering what you guys thought about what internals I should put in this thing...

Should I go higher compression?

Should I get a aftermarket cam?

rods?
deck the block or head?

like i said before i want jump in power but needs to run everyday and get decent mileage.

Thanks for any help.

A D16Z6 puts down what, 120 HP or so? What do you want, 150? If so, building your NA motor is going to take a lot. Better off doing a bigger swap. You said its an EF, is it the hatch? 72 HP standard base model? With a MPFI swap it may push 70 HP to the wheels. A good Z6 swap will be a big upgrade as is. If you want more, look into forced induction or a B series swap.

its an LX 4 door.

I'm really not looking for much at all and I already have the Z6 so I think I am just going to do a stock rebuild on it and call it a day.

thanks for all the advice.

i liked how much umph my a6/z6 mini me made. low end torque, pulled to redline. i had a very crappy base map, stock cam that was half a tooth off due to how much the head had been shaved, 2.75" intake short ram intake, ls tb, skunk2 intake manifold, ebay header, highflow 2.5" cat and a 2.5" cat back (too large for the motor with that tune actually) here's my power curve:

definately could have gotten some more ponies out of it and more response with a tune, some port work a cam and a better header i think.

Build for nitrous and replace it with a turbo when you can.

I'm going to roll with this suggestion. Use the motor you have, tune for nitrous. Call it a day.
