Default Engine replacement

Hi guys I'm new to the site and need so help with my first honda. I have a 2000 cvic ex with a bad motor. The block has a 3 inch hole from a spun rod. I only paid $500 for the car, still worth it cause the body is in great condition. I have gotten hold of a 98 ex for dirt cheap with 71,233 miles on it and want to use the motor for my 2000. My question is can I just pull the motor out of the 98 and just drop it in the 2000 or is there a big difference between the two cars. Both cars are SOHC V-TECH motors.

No real difference, swap for swap as long as both are manual/manual or auto/auto. I'd swap the 00 exhaust manifold over as it puts the 02 in the right spot and the design is better than the 98.

That's the one difference the 98 is a stick and the 2000 is a automatic.

you'll have to swap over the intake manifold. but other than that you'll be fine.

if your want to put the engine from the 98 into the 00 youll be good if you only plan on using the motor, not the motor and trans. swapping the car from auto to manual is a pretty major project, including running lines for the hydro clutch..

Swap the engine and use the intake and exhaust manifolds from the 2000. Use an intake manifold gasket for a 99-00 D16Y8. Everything should be plug and play.

I finally got around to replacing my engine and I took the intake off the 2000 just like suggested. The issue I see now is the port holes look different. Are you sure I don't need to use the head of the 2000 as well?

OP needs to reuse the 99-00 distributor to be able to plug into the stock engine harness.

Thanks for the advice guys, engine is in without any problems. My next project will be to do some small upgrades but for now I'm just happy the car is running great.
