3k on build need t-belt advice
Okay so I have about 3,200 miles on my rebuilt b18c1 and yesterday I decided to inspect my t-belt. It seems to be rubbing on the engine side. I have some pictures. My question is why is the belt rubbing, can a belt be to tight, and do you guys think the belt we last 10k?
everything looks totally normal to me. the belt should easily last another 10k if it was brand new when you put the motor together, which Imma slap you if you didn't replace it then.
you can never tell anything by looking at a timing belt, unless there's something really abnormal. the wear is internal; after billions of revolutions and bending and straightening, it looses its integrity, which is why belts snap if you go too long without replacing them. go according to mileage, NOT visual.
I've seen belts snap at 125k miles that literally looked brand spanking new. and I've seen belts that looked old and beat up to hell after only 5k miles, that lasted another 75k and was perfectly fine at replacement.
tbelts should be replaced every 80k miles. or a bit less if you have super stiff valve springs.
